intel processors vary widely in heat output between single and multi-core processors, so we rely on two values which represent the upper limit of both existing cpu families to test thermal solutions. with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Cooljag Falcon 92-AL heatsink maintains a temperature of just 23.2°C over ambient (with 52.1dBA noise). For a heatsink we were initially unsure about, that is a very positive result. In fact that puts the Falcon 92-AL heatsink in the top 10. When the speed of the 92mm PWM fan speed is reduced to about 1200RPM the sound output falls to 30.8 dBA, but surprisingly the temperature increases only to 27.6°C over ambient. This is an excellent temperature result for a heatsink that is running near whisper quiet. The Cooljag Falcon 92-AL heatsink was also tested with an 85W heat load. In this case it held steady with a low 14.2°C temperature over ambient at full fan speed. As fan speed was reduced to 1200RPM, the Falcon 92-AL maintained a rise above ambient temperature of just 17.2°C. When the Cooljag Falcon 92-AL heatsink is running at full tilt it is an excellent heatsink for LGA775 Intel and K8 AMD processor platforms. On the Intel synthetic test platform in particular, this Cooljag heatsink exhibited very enticing results, maintaining some of the lowest temperatures for a heatsink in the 31 dBA range (at low fan speed) in fact. Overall the Falcon 92-AL heatsink is a bit bulky, but there is no getting around the thermal results we've seen here. It's not the absolute best heatsink every, but it offers an excellent mix of low temperatures and noise levels. Related Articles: For more reviews on the latest heatsinks and
