Acoustic Samples: Listen to this Heatsink! Globalwin use a fan with 11 blades on the impeller and so noise is moderate for the size of fan. At just 54.2 dB the VA476 is a mid range noise maker. To hear this heatsink for yourself, click on the little headphones below and download the MP3 file of the cooler in operation.
Sound Level Measurements: Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements.
With our Omega HHSL1 sound meter in tow, we hooked up the VA476 to a silent power supply and took some measurements. From a distance of about 12" away the meter registered a sound level of 54.2 dB which isn't too bad all things considered - and indeed places the heatsink midrange.
