NengTyi XPC5000 Copper Heatsink Review
In all honesty, AMD processors get the coolest stuff compared to what Pentium 4 users have to look through in after market heatsinks. With the full-copper XPC5000, NengTyi have made something rather eye catching. NengTyi have taken big sheets of copper, cut them up to increase surface area, and attached them all to a nice thick copper base. To make sure all these components are well protected they have even gone so far as to include a full-copper fan shroud. With all this copper you have to wonder if Taiwan is going to run out the metal soon! So lets check out the latest offering from NengTyi, the XPC5000. The heatsink closely resembles the Akasa Silver mountain in fin design, but perhaps built to perform just that much more. Let's find out!
If you have ever seen the Akasa silver mountain heatsink you will recognize some similarities with the NengTyi XPC5000 here. Akasa cut out small pathways for the punched out copper fins to slide into, and then mechanically set them into place. With the silver mountain, a silver coating was apparently added after the fact to help improve the thermal interface between the fins and the base material. We can't really say what NengTyi are using to hold the eight fin sections to the copper base plate, but I would guess it to be dip brazing - which is a form of soldering. In the past we have seen some NengTyi heatsinks which used rather ineffective thermal adhesive to bond fin and base in place, but I highly doubt that process is being used anymore as it is just too unreliable.
