The 25mm thick YS Tech fan with its 7 blades as a bit noisy as you can guess from the waveform image below, but wasn't ear shattering. The image shows some big jumps which are just static that entered in the recording somewhere.

If you saw our review of the Vantec GSN-7015 you noticed that it didn't do very well. While the GSN-7025 and that heatsink are closely related, the difference in performance is substantial - nearly 10 degrees. It's good to see the Vantec cooler has the stuff to outperform the default Intel socket 478 heatsink, otherwise there wouldn't be much point to switching coolers would there? The performance of the Vantec at 50W is not really any different than the Intel cooler however.

Please note, that since socket 478 heatsinks are only capable of mounting to a motherboard with a HSRM, we will only be testing them on the large copper interface die.

The Vantec GSN-7025 manages to improve on the default Intel socket 478 cooler by a couple degrees - which isn't too bad considering the fan can at least be upgraded a lot easier. The Vantec coolers are generally priced so that OEM's can add them to their inventory, where as the AVC and Arkua coolers both use radical designs with copper cores.

Overall, we can see that the GSN-7025 gives users a slight edge over the standard heatsink Intel ships with its retail socket 478 Pentium 4 processors, and that is always welcome.
