Abstract: At the forefront of the emerging class of 70mm heatsinks is the Model 5T, a simple extruded design that pulls it off quite well from the outset.

One of the nicer things about the 70mm fans is that they need not rotate quite as fast to move as much air as the 60mm fans do. In the case of the fan mounted on the Model 5T, it is not perfectly quiet, but nor is it anywhere near to that of the insanely noisy Delta fans. If you click on the pair of headphones you can listen to this heatsink for yourself. Interestingly, the waveform image looks a bit out of scale compared to the noise the fan produces.

The temperature results instantly paint the model 5T as an OEM cooler, at about the same level as the Volcano 6Cu+, but with less weight and noise. The cooler seems to work best on the small interface die, and although the numbers aren't amazing, they aren't cause for concern either.

The Thermalright CB-6L, a cooler we recently looked at comes in farther behind for most of the tests, especially on the 100W small interface die. Of course you are dealing with a 70mm cooler so size considerations are important. The sides of the heatsink are angled to help clear nearby capacitors which is nice to see.
