In the olden days before 7000RPM fans, heatsinks were generally quiet little devices. This is one such cooler. Based upon a traditional 19CFM 60mm fan, the CB-6L is very quiet while in operation. Rather than use longer lasting (and noisy) ball bearings, the Sunon fan uses a vapour bearing system which, evidently from the waveform, is superbly quiet. In the end, the lower rotational speed, and smaller size of the fan conspire to produce a refreshingly quiet heatsink. As always, you can listen to this heatsink by clicking on the headphones to the right of the waveform images. The Sample is about 10 seconds in length and is stored in MP3 format.
Synthetic Temperature Test Results: *Ranked according to 100W small interface die test results.
Well the performance of the CB-6L is no where near what you might have expected from the Thermalright SK-6, but it is not at the bottom of the list either. One thing is very clear, and that is the poor performance of this cooler on the large interface die. When mounted on the small interface die the performance of the CB-6L is only slightly above that of the Fortis A92, at 50W and 100W. Overall, it would seem as though Thermalright had regressed in heatsink design instead of progressing. In any case the rise above ambient temperatures are up next.
