Synthetic Test Results:
In the initial results of the tests the CCK-6035D managed to make it into the top 5 of our test heatsinks, although it still appears to be a few degrees shy of outperforming the venerable SK6. It's interesting to note that the results between the large copper die template and the small copper die template are very close. Generally the temperature results are separated by 10 degrees or so. With these kinds of results, it would be interesting to see if the CCK-6035D is capable of P4 duty.... .
The
results of the rise above ambient temperature table show the SK6, CAK38
and CCK-6035D are neck in neck for the position
of first place. Vantec have definitely improved on their previous
heatsink with the retail offering. While there is roughly a
degree in temperature difference between the SK6 and the CCK-6035D, the SK6 shows
a much better temperature on the large copper die template.
Acoustic Sample: Vantec CCK-6035D The Vantec CCK-6035D uses a Delta AFB0612EH (25mm thick) 60mm fan that rotates at 6800 RPM. To illustrate the noise generated by the fan and heatsink combo we recorded the following sound clip. Shown are the spectral and waveform images of the sound that was recorded. The noise (click on the headphones) was created by the fan motor and the turbulence of the air moving through the CCK-6035D's fins.
The intensity of the sound can be gauged by the height of the waveform image. Generally the flatter the waveform, the quieter the heatsink is. The Delta fan is one of the loudest cooling solutions in use so this waveform represents the louder end of the spectrum. Conclusions: Overall we were really impressed by what the CCK-6035D had to show us. The difference in finish from the pre-production heatsink to the one we see today are primarily visual - performance has stayed at about the same level. Thin-fin copper heatsinks look like they will be the next trend in cooling as temperatures continue to rise, and chips continue to need cooling. We were also really pleased to see that Vantec had taken the time to design or at least use a clip that was easy to engage without fear of damaging the processor below. The hinged clip lever really makes it simple to attach a heatsink with no screwdriver!
