frostytech's socket LGA2011 Intel synthetic thermal test platform stresses socket LGA2011/1366 compatible heatsinks with a 200W heat load. Keep in mind that the AMD Integrated Heat Spreader and Intel LGA2011 Integrated Heat Spreader both measure ~38x38mm, so these test results can be extrapolated to AMD processor scenario's as well. With a 200W heat load applied by the Intel LGA2011/1366 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the BeQuiet Dark Rock TF heatsink yields a good temperature result of 19.2°C over ambient at stock fan speed (1400RPM / 44.5dBA). If we break the 200W heatsink reference chart results down a little further and look exclusively at air coolers, the Dark Rock TF heatsink ranks about 7th best. Of that group of seven air coolers though, it is the quietest. Where similar noise output and better air cooling performance are considered, the Dark Rock TF comes in third, behind the Noctua NH-D15 and NH-U14S heatsinks. Ultimately, if we crunch the numbers for air coolers alone, the BeQuiet Dark Rock TF is a very good heatsink for the Intel LGA2011 platform. If watercooling is the path you wish to take, there are several better performing liquid coolers to chose from for sure, though none are near as quiet at stock fan speed. Looking back at the previous Intel LGA115x and AMD heatsink reference charts, the BeQuiet Dark Rock TF cooler offers up good thermal performance without significant noise output, but given the hundreds of heatsinks already tested, there are a great many other air coolers which offer slightly better cooling performance to pick from. In either situation though, the BeQuiet Dark Rock TF heatsink is a very worthwhile heatsink to consider. Related Articles: The Top 5 best heatsinks for low noise and low temperature are ranked here.
