Abstract: At first glance you probably won't notice that Reeven's Okeanos RC-1402 heatsink uses two slightly different fans - a 120mm vaneaxial fan on the front and a 140mm fan in between the two aluminum fin stacks.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

On the front of the Okeanos RC-1402 heatsink is a 120x120x25mm PWM fan running at 1800-300RPM. In the center of the heatsink is a 140x140x25mm fan that spins at 1700-300RPM. A Y-splitter isn't supplied so you'll need two motherboard fan headers for this cooler. The twin aluminum fin stacks each stand 120mm tall, 40mm deep and 140mm wide. The aluminum fins measure 0.3mm thick and are spaced 2.0mm apart.

The bottom-most cooling fin is elevated 38mm above the CPU for motherboard clearance. Note how the front (intake) fan is 120mm in size and the internal (push-through) fan is 140mm in size. There is a small 10mm plenum in front of the 140mm fan to reduce noise born from air turbulence.

The top of the Reeven Ouranos heatsink is covered with a name plate that covers the holes punched in the aluminum fins for a finished appearance. The nickel plated copper heatspreader measures 38x43mm.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineer's straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axes.

The nickel plated copper base plate of the Reeven Okeanos RC-1402 heatsink measures 38x43mm and has a smooth, machined surface finish. Surface roughness is approximately 16 microinches or better. According to the straight edge, the base is convex in one axis and essentially flat in the opposite.
