Intel Core i5 / Core i3 / Core 2 Duo /
Pentium 4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

The heat
output from Intel processors varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values
that represent the upper limits of existing CPU families.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel
LGA775/1156 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform first, the
Scythe Rasetsu heatsink was able to maintain a very good temperature result of
17.2°C over ambient at full fan speed (59.5 dBA noise).
After
reducing fan speed from 1800RPM to 800RPM, CPU die temperatures increased
moderately to 24.9°C over ambient. Noise levels fell to 38.2 dBA.
The
Scythe Rasetsu heatsink was then tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic
thermal test platform with an 85W heat
load. Under these test conditions the Rasetsu heatsink had no problem
maintaining a CPU die temperature of 10.4°C at stock fan speed and 14.9°C at its
reduced fan speed.
As
Frostytech alluded to in the beginning of this review, the Scythe Rasetsu
heatsink is clearly able to operate within the relm of performance heatsinks.
Yet while the Rasetsu is a very good heatsink in this respect (just 3°C off the
top, coolest heatsink tested to date) it is louder than several other heatsinks
which offer slightly improved thermal performance.
However, amongst 130mm tall or
shorter heatsinks the Scythe Rasetsu is the best performing heatsink tested
to date. The next three closest options if you wish to draw comparisons are;
Zerotherm Core 92 at 18.4°C over ambient,
Thermaltake Bigtyp 14pro at 18.8°C over ambient and
Zerotherm BTF92 OC ed. heatsink at 19.0°C over
ambient (150W Intel synthetic test platform).
Bottom
line, the Scythe Rasetsu is a very good performance-class
heatsink that while moderately loud with its fan at default speed, offers users
very good thermal performance options and direct dial fan speed adjustment for
good cooling performance when lower noise, lower fan speed operation is desired.
