Extreme / Pentium D & Quad Core class heatsinks tested at
150W
Intel Core i5 / Core i3 / Core 2 Duo /
Pentium 4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

The heat output from Intel processors
varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper
limits of existing CPU families.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775/1156 version of FrostyTech's
synthetic thermal test platform first, the Glacialtech Siberia heatsink
maintains a good temperature result of 21.2°C over ambient (47.6dBA noise)
at full fan speed.
After
reducing the 140mm fan speed from 1400RPM to 800RPM (the 92mm fan remains
at a constant 1300RPM), CPU die temperatures increase moderately to 24.8°C over
ambient. Noise levels fall to 38.6 dBA.
The Glacialtech Siberia
heatsink was next tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test
platform with an 85W heat load. Under these test conditions the heatsink had no
problem maintaining a CPU die temperature of 13.6°C at stock fan speed and
14.9°C at its quietest reduced fan speed. Intel Sandy Bridge socket 1155
processors are expected to enter the market with a TDP of 95W so this heatsink
is easily capable of cooling those chips.
To sum it
all up, Glacialtech has produced a very good heatsink in the Siberia that
offers moderately quiet cooling for computer systems which demand a sub-125mm
tall thermal solution. The mounting system could stand to be improved to
make installing this heatsink in the confines of a computer system less about
turning screws with a 1-inch wrench, for as it stands the Siberia is not the
most user friendly CPU cooler to mount.
Looking
past the minor shortcoming, in the context
of sub-125mm height restrictions the Glacialtech Siberia is
outperformed by only three heatsinks, the Zerotherm Core 92, Enzotech ultra-X and
Noctua NH-C12P
heatsinks, by at most 2.8°C, so it is well worth considering.
