Abstract: The upper fan on the Glacialtech Siberia heatsink measures 140x140mm in size and rotates at 1400-800RPM, the lower 2x92mm fan operates at a fixed speed of 1300RPM. With both fans running at full speed the Siberia heatsink is moderately quiet.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The top 140mm fan spins at 1400-800RPM and draws power from a standard 4-pin motherboard fan header, the lower 92mm fan rotates at 1300RPM and shares the same power connector. Each fan is held on with wire fan clips. Six 6mm diameter copper heatpipes pass through the bare aluminum fins that are stamped to create a narrow louvre - similar to an air conditioner heat exchanger. The aluminum fins measure 0.3mm thick and are spaced 2.0mm apart.

The Glacialtech Siberia heatsink stands 122mm tall, the bottom-most fin being 68mm above the CPU socket for clearance. The six heatpipes are positioned side to side where they make direct contact with the processor and expand outward in an arc before intersecting the 28mm high aluminum fins. Also notice the louvre's and saw-tooth leading edge of the fins. The base incorporates a 16mm thick aluminum section to provide support for clamping, with 10mm extruded fins for a little extra cooling surface area.

The nickel plated copper base of the Glacialtech Siberia heatsink measures 30x40mm in size and soldered to the six copper heatpipes. It is 2-5mm thick. Viewed from the side, the staggered profile of the Siberia heatsink allows a relatively large footprint (149x146mm at the top edge) to clear adjacent board components below.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineers straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axis.

The nickel plated copper base of Glacialtech's Siberia heatsink has a surface roughness of approximately 32 microinches, which is considered good. The base has a sanded finish that is generally flat in both axis.
