FrostyTech Heatsink Noise Level Measurements Noise level Decibel measurements of each heatsinks' fan in operation are taken with the aid of a sound level meter and sound isolating enclosure. The values may be higher than the mfgr's listed specs, but are directly comparable to one another. Measurements are made on the dB (A) scale, lower values are best. The 120mm PWM fan on the DeepCool Ice Blade Pro heatsink spins at 1500RPM by default, and this creates 46.1dBA noise according to Frostytech's real world sound measurements. On any PWM compliant motherboard the BIOS can automatically scale fan speed to as slow as 1000RPM depending on the CPUs thermal requirements. At its reduced fan speed of 1000RPM, the DeepCool Ice Blade Pro produces ~33.0dBA - essentially whisper quiet.
