FrostyTech Heatsink Noise Level Measurements Noise level Decibel measurements of each heatsinks' fan in operation are taken with the aid of a sound level meter and sound isolating enclosure. The values may be higher than the mfgr's listed specs, but are directly comparable to one another. Measurements are made on the dB (A) scale, lower values are best. Setting the 120mm fan Cooler Master supply with the Hyper Z600 Black Label heatsink to run at full speed (2200RPM) will create about a moderate 49.2 dBA noise. This is a fairly average, but I suspect if another 120mm fan were added noise levels would increase beyond the point of acceptance. The 120mm PWM can scale as slow as 800RPM, under which it outputs a whisper quiet 30.1 dBA. When used without a fan the Hyper Z600 Black Label heatsink is obviously silent!
