FrostyTech Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Intel Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W

Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

*heatsinks are ranked according to the 150w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific heatsink review.

intel processors vary widely in heat output between single and multi-core processors, so frostytech relies on two thermal loads that represent the upper limit of both cpu families to test each heatsink. with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Scythe Kama Cross (SCKC-1000) heatsink maintains a temperature of 30.0°C over ambient (with 40.0 dBA noise).

As far as Intel heatsinks go, this is a good result that places the Kama Cross at about the middle of the Intel heatsink reference list. In comparison, the Scythe Mine Rev. B heatsink runs about 6°C cooler.

The Kama Cross heatsink was next tested with an 85W heat load, and in this situation it held steady at 18.8°C over ambient temperatures. The fan speed was maintained at 1500RPM, so noise levels didn't fluctuate from 40.0 dBA.

Ultimately, the Scythe Kama Cross heatsink is a great low noise cooling option that places at the middle of Frostytech's heatsink reference list when it comes to temperatures. The nice 100mm fan holds steady with whisper quiet operation (40 dBA), but that doesn't allow the Kama Cross from overtaking other Scythe heatsinks like the Mine Rev.B cooler. In the end, that makes the Kama Cross is a good low noise, but average heatsink for Intel and AMD processor platforms.
