Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The Heatsink Fan:
The 100x100x25mm fan on the Scythe Kama Cross SCKC-1000 spins at 1500RPM. Noise levels hover around 40 dBA according to Frostytech's real world should level measurements. The fan connects via a 3-pin motherboard fan header. There is no fan grill to protect the slow moving impeller from errant wires, so keep the inside of your case neat and tidy. The Kama Cross can also accept a 120mm fan if you wish to replace the supplied unit.

Heatsink Top:
With the fan removed we get a better view of how air moves through the fins of the Kama Cross heatsink. Each aluminum fin is 0.3mm thick and spaced 1.25mm apart. The leading edge of the fin is bent upwards so airflow from the fan is captured and moved through the fins. The black anodized aluminum sections cap off the heatpipes and provide a firm mount for the fan.

Heatsink Side A:
The Scythe Kama Cross stands 128mm tall, but the cooling fins are elevated 43mm above the surface of the motherboard. This provides excellent clearance for adjacent capacitors and board mounted devices. Furthermore, one the exhaust air leaves the Kama Cross it is directed right at components around the CPU socket, which provides and added measure of cooling.

Heatsink Side B:
Below the fan is a large 57 x 120mm section of aluminum cooling fin. Three copper heatpipes connect the cooling fins with a chrome plated copper base block. The heatpipes are soldered to the copper so thermal resistance is minimized.

Heatsink Base:
The copper base of the Scythe Kama Cross heatsink is polished very smooth, and chrome plated to resist oxidation. It measures 38x34mm in size. The base is perfectly flat in both axis. Surface roughness is at or better than 8 microinches, which is considered excellent. Note the four screws for attaching the CPU mounting brackets.
