the heat output from intel processors varies widely between single and multi-core processors, so frostytech tests heatsinks with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of both existing cpu families; 150w and 85w. with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Coolage Freezer Orb heatsink yields a rise above ambient temperature of 32.0°C. At the fan's stock speed of 2800RPM this generates 48.9dBA noise. The CPU equivalent of this test would be an Intel Core 2 Quad, Pentium D/Extreme Edition class processor. The speed of the 95mm PWM fan is reduced, the Coolage Freezer Orb maintains a temp of 41.6°C over ambient. Noise levels fall to a very quiet 34.1dBA. When faced with a high heat load and the fan in ultra quiet mode, the Freezer Orb FO-Z924AL heatsink is a little underwhelming to be frank. At full speed, the temperature result is fairly average. Next, the Coolage Freezer Orb heatsink was tested with an 85W heat load; akin to a Core 2 Duo processor. The heatsink achieved a 19.9°C over ambient temperature at default fan speed, and 25.5°C at reduced fan speed. In this case the Coolage Freezer Orb is a little better suited, posting thermal results we would class as good-to-average. The Coolage Freezer Orb F0-Z924AL heatsink is perhaps most hampered by its compact size, this limits it in comparison to the tower heatsinks that dominate Frostytech reference list above. Ultimately, Coolage's Freezer Orb heatsink proves itself to be an average-to-satisfactory heatsink. It will get the job done at full fan speed without excessive noise, but if your computer case can accommodate a slightly larger heatsink you can achieve much better results.
