with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Evercool PT02-9232CP heatsink yields a rise above ambient temperature of 33.3°C (63.3dBA) at the fans' very loud stock speed of 4000RPM. The CPU equivalents of this heat load would be a stressed Intel Pentium D / Extreme Edition or Core 2 Quad class chip. Next, the Evercool PT02-9232CP was tested with an 85W heat load. This test resulted in a very good 19.9°C rise over ambient temperature at full fan speed. Compared to the stock Intel Pentium D reference heatsink, the Evercool PT02-9232CP offers no significant advantage when running full speed ahead... Its' thermal performance is virtually identical to the Intel reference cooler, which just happens to operate ~16 dBA quieter! To be fair, it is important to note that we were unable to reduce the units' fan speed to 1300RPM to find the lower (and quieter) limit of the PT02-9232CP's thermal performance. At the time of this writing, FrostyTech was unable to locate any reliable 4-pin PWM fan speed controllers. Clearly, when it comes to forced airflow over elegant flow designs, the Evercool PT02-9232CP suffers greatly. While the heatsink is just as good as the stock Intel cooler, the high degree of noise is produces has all but guaranteed it a big red "satisfactory" stamp. Related Articles: For more
