360° View - Evercool PT02-9232CP Heatsink

The Heatsink Fan:
The Evercool PT02-9232CP heatsink is built with an 92mm diameter fan that spins at 1300-4000RPM. The speed of the seven-bladed Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) fan is controlled via the BIOS. Power is supplied by the 4-pin PWM fan cable which connects to a standard 3-pin or 4-pin motherboard fan header. There is a 10mm plenum between the fan blades and the top of the cooling fins. The plastic fan shroud protects the fan blades from all but the most direct of errant objects, and given the speeds we're dealing with here... a fan guard really should have been included. The 92mm PWM fan runs loudly at full speed (4000rpm) when its connected to a standard 3-pin fan header.

Heatsink Top:
With the fan support structure removed, the common design of Evercool PT02-9232CP heatsink is visible. The central copper core is 13mm thick at the base, then the remaining 22mm deep cavity opens up so there is just 2mm of copper along either edge. The copper core remains 9mm shy of the top of the 38mm tall aluminum section however. The aluminum 'donut' measures 89mm in diameter, though each side is comprised of 2.7mm of solid aluminum and ~25mm of bifurcated aluminum cooling fin. Each fin is 1.0mm thick at the base and spaced 1.5 apart. The fin tips are just 0.3mm thick, and spaced 1.5mm from the next.

Heatsink Side A:
The metal body of the Evercool PT02-9232CP heatsink stands exactly 38mm tall, with an overall height of 74mm. The plastic clips lock directly into the 4mm motherboard mounting holes which surround the LGA775 processor socket. To release the heatsink from the board, the upper portion of the clip is rotated 90 degrees and pulled upwards. The heatsink then pulls free of the board.

Heatsink Side B:
The fan support frame locks onto the aluminum portion of the heatsink with a couple slashes cut into the side of the fins. The fan frame is held in tension, so vibration and rattling shouldn't be an issue. Air is exhausted outwards from the cooling fins, where it can then be used to cool adjacent board-mounted components.

Heatsink Base:
The copper base of the Evercool PT02-9232CP heatsink is 29mm in diameter where it makes contact with the processor integrated heatspreader (IHS). The copper is machined perfectly flat, and smooth. Surface roughness is on the order of ~8 microinches, which is considered excellent. Owing to the pinless design of the LGA775 processor and socket, the mounting clips and hardware on the heatsink are rigid mounts. It's the CPU in the socket which provides the tension to the equation, by means of its many springy electrical contacts. The cooler is shown here without its plastic retention clips installed.
