Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm
copper interface die with 125W heat load on the Mk.II Test Platform.
Thermal Test values for each heatsink were calculated by determining
the rise over ambient temperature at time of test. Information on
Frostytech's test methodology is available
here. |

*heatsinks are
ranked according to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over
ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered
best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high
speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more
detailed results reside in each specific heatsink
review. |
Since there is no way to manually control the Arctic Cooling
Silencer 64 Ultra TC fan speed, we have only one thermal test result to consider.
As the thermistor is placed in an ideal location, one which allows
the fan to react to the actual temperature of the heatsink instead of
ambient air temperatures, the fan can adjust itself accordingly. This is a good design choice
in our opinion.
Ultimately though, the synthetic thermal test results yield
a rise above ambient temperature result of 37.5°C, that puts the Arctic Cooling
Silencer 64 Ultra TC in a thermal region which is considered satisfactory for the socket 754/939/940
AMD Athlon64 processor.
As a
thermally
controlled heatsink, one can expect noise levels to vary depending on the temperature of the heatsink. Realistically
though, the fan will rotate at a higher speed most often, than
its ultra-quiet mode. The Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC compares well to the stock AMD Athlon64
reference heatsink by Ajigo, but is unable to best it acoustically and to a lesser extent in
terms of temperature.
