The
CNPS7000A-Cu weighs close to 800 grams, so it is
not surprising that all that copper works to keep temperatures very low.
The initial test results are shown for both the large (P4) and small (AthlonXP)
die interface tests. We are ranking this list by the 100W small interface die
test results, but in just a moment we'll do the same for Pentium4 test
die.

As a low
noise heatsink the Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu simply excels. The two Thermalright
heatsinks performed as they did only with the help of a 66dBA loud fan - so
just imagine a screaming vacuum cleaner under your desk as opposed to the fairly quiet
42 dBA Zalman cooler which came in only a few degrees less in our
tests. The new Tocools Novasonic-AlCu also holds up well to the
CNPS7000A-Cu.
As a socket A heatsink the CNPS7000A-cu
has one major limitation; the retention system for this socket relies upon
the AMD motherboard mounting holes. Since these mounting holes in the PCB around
the socket are far from common, the CNPS7000A-cu is not universally
acceptable. Luckily, most performance oriented AMD AthlonXP
motherboards worth their salt have the mounting holes in the PCB
included. If you're motherboard doesn't, I'm afraid you'll have to look
elsewhere as there is no way to mount the Zalman CNPS7000A-cu without them.
Up next, we take a look at the results for this
heatsink on the Intel Pentium 4 Socket 478 platform.
