Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2
Heatsink From All Angles |
|
The Fan:
The under-hung fan used on
the Copper Silent 2 is a one-piece unit. Both the fan
shroud and the fan are actually one unit, meaning there is no opportunity to replace the fan should it fail.

Heatsink Top: There are a total of 28 fins on this heatsink, all of
which are angled slightly to the outside, and their surfaces untextured. The cut in the center
is 6.5mm wide for the clip to sit
in. |
|
Side A: The entire heatsink sits roughly 79mm high, with the
heatsink itself taking up just 41mm of that height. The fins are
1mm thick and spaced 1.1-2.3mm apart from base to top. The aluminum base is 5mm
thick, and the copper plate soldered on 5.5mm thick. Each aluminum fin
stands 31mm in height and is bent slightly towards the outside. It
is easy to see how the fan is under-hung in this
image. |
|
Side B: I'm
not much of a fan of the 3-prong
clip system in use here. The clip
really doesn't have enough of a catch to easily use a flat head screwdriver to engage it.
The slot is really thin, so most screwdrivers are unlikely to even fit, further adding to the
frustration. |

Heatsink
Base:
The 5.5mm thick copper pad measures 44x44mm. The surface of
the aluminum heatsink doesn't come in contact with the processor so
its finish is not important. The copper pad has been machined
relatively flat in the center, and fairly smooth (though there are
some slight machining marks visible). The edges of the copper seem to rise
up very slightly so this heatsink wouldn't work well with a TEC unless
lapped.
