For the purposes of our tests on the synthetic temperature test
platform, we used a single 92mm x 92mm low-noise Zalman fan set at 6" and 12"
distances from the TS Heatronics NCU-1000 heatsink to replicate typical computer case air flow in an impingement fashion.
As we can see by the initial results, the stronger the airflow, the better
the heatsink did indeed perform. For a passive cooler it looks as though we may see
some fairly good results from the NCU-1000.

Looking at the final rise above ambient temperatures we can
instantly see that with relatively strong passive airflow, the TS Heatronics
NCU-1000 would prosper very well as a Pentium 4 cooler (Scythe handles the
online retail of this Japanese heatsink). The results of the test with the 92mm fan placed 6" away may
be difficult to directly emulate within a case considering the number of different
variables that exist which can impede, or improve good ventilation,
but none the less, the results are impressive.
As a passive heatsink, the NCU-1000 certainly has the
means to perform very well indeed, and is obviously only limited by the airflow
it receives within the computer enclosure. For the second test, we moved the
92mm Zalman fan back to a distance of 12" away from the NCU-1000, and watched
what happened to the temperature reading on our digital thermometer....
Surprisingly, the temperatures only rose about 8-9
degrees Celsius. Considering the drop in airflow, the temperatures we see here
for the 12" distances are still quite remarkable, though not as impressive as in
the 6" test.
Ultimately, the TS Heatronics NCU-1000 is a passive cooler that is intimately
tied to the benefits of an actively cooled computer chassis. The better the
airflow from the front of the case, up to the powersupply, the better the
NCU-1000 can perform. Thermal performance ranged from average to pretty good in
our tests, an in each test that was without a fan directly mounted to the
heatsink. Very cool indeed.
