nPowerTek TTIC NPH-1 Heatpipe Heatsink Review
nPowerTek TTIC NPH-1 Heatpipe Heatsink Review

Abstract: The heatsink looks fairly unremarkable from the outside, but at the center sits a 25mm diameter copper heatpipe which gives the NPH-1 some really serious kick.

Make no bones about it, we were just as surprised by the initial results from the nPowertek NPH-1. Ranking in at practically the top of the reference list with just a pair of 70mm fans is very impressive, no matter how you look at it!

Remember how I said we tested the nPowertek NPH-1 a few times? The first time we ran the heatsink through the synthetic temperature test platform I had inadvertently connected the two fans up to the 5V line from the Zalman Multiconnector 1 (basically a 4 way Y-splitter). The NPH-1 ran really quietly naturally, and ranked in at 18.1 Celsius rise above ambient on the 50W load test, and 35.2 Celsius on the 100W load test. Pretty good results, and a little higher than I had actually expected.

After realizing the error, the nPowertek NPH-1 was retested with the fans connected to the proper 12V power supply and the results logged. The rise above ambient temperature was so low that I felt compelled to test the heatsink yet again. True to form, the nPowertek NPH-1 reached the same rise above ambient temperature results that you see in the chart above.

That the NPH-1 was able to give the Thermalright SLK-900U and it's 38mm thick 80mm Delta 'screamer' a run for its money while only producing 52.3 dB of noise is impressive to say the least. Add to that the fact that the twin fans can be run at 5V and still enable the NPH1 to perform quite well. Ultimately, the nPowertek NPH-1 is a heatsink that tackles performance cooling at moderate noise levels, and low-noise cooling at very nice thermals. With thermal performance and versatility of this magnitude the nPowertek NPH-1 is a heatsink I would highly recommend, even if it doesn't posses the most hassle-free mounting mechanism in the world.
