Take one
heatsink with a fairly standard design and throw into the mix some nice chewy
copper. What do you get? Well, aside from a very hard stew, you also get a
heatsink
like the SP411C5 from Spire, and more importantly,
a heatsink that handles the heat well. The fan adjusts speed from 3000-5500RPM depending on the
temperature the thermal sensor is measuring to counter balance the heat with more
airflow. Looking at the initial results we can see that this design is doing
pretty well for starters.

I suppose a thermally reactive fan is one of
the great benefits of a heatsink these days; at lower temperatures the
fan spins at a mild RPM, but once
the heat rises the impeller spins up to full RPM to counter the heat.
As
the fan gets faster it also produces more noise, so this may
become something of an air raid siren in computers which have been assembled
with silent first and foremost in mind.
Regardless, the numbers clearly show just
how the Spire SP411C5 performs under load.
