Coolink U1P2 Heatsink Review

To be totally honest, this is an ugly heatsink - it's big, it's nickel plating doesn't look that great, and it uses two fans to achieve pretty damn good results. What? Yup, the Coolink U1P2 is an ugly duckling that performs a heck of a lot better than you'd ever think. Built with a body of nickel plated 6063-T5 extruded aluminum and a 2mm thick C1100 copper base, the Coolink U1P2 already seems pretty formidable by description alone. Of course, in the search for ultimate cooling manufacturers are always looking for the best combination of heatsink and fan and in this example the heatsink is topped with no less than two fans.

Two fans are a rarity these days, but were common back in the golden days of the Slot 1 and Slot A processors. Sitting above the heatsink are two 25mm thick 5000RPM fans; and if Coolink have the equation right, the U1P2 should be an interesting heatsink to test out.

The downside to this heatsink is acoustic, and is something you can hear from the second you turn it on - it is loud and that may put off many consumers in these days of quieter computing. In fact, in our tests the Coolink U1P2 registered a noise level of 63.3 dB!

That much noise makes it one of the loudest heatsink fans we have tested in quite some time, and it will ultimately make it an annoying heatsink with time for whoever uses it. After all, even performance oriented users like to be able to approach their tweaked and tuned computers without the need for hearing protection.
