Taisol CGK760172A Copper Base Heatsink Review
This particular style of Taisol heatsink is very common - sporting a cold forged body with copper insert - and is a staple of Taisol's socket A heatsink line up. The CGK760172A is a new take on an old and trusted design, though the only real difference between it and its predecessors is a larger size, 25mm thick fan. Cold forging is a process by which metal is shaped within a closed die with continuous pressure, or impact. No heat or machining is required to output the heatsink to final net shape, though the base is generally machined. The aluminum fins and base of the Taisol CGK760172A heatsink look like they are each made from separate components, but are in fact they are one and the same. To spice things up even further, a copper plate has been embedded into the aluminum base. Taisol call this their "impact forged copper base."
The clip Taisol have developed makes use of all three notches on the socket which means there is less chance of the heatsink being installed crooked, or snapping off a clip. Making use of all three notches also guarantees that the heatsink will be much less likely to ever fall off if the computer is being shipped. Weighing in at just 264 grams, the Taisol CGK760172A is lighter than most of the Socket A heatsinks we have been seeing this year.
