Synthetic Temperature Test Results: *Ranked according to 100W interface die test results.
Alrighty, as you can see there is a big difference in temperatures when the fan is rotating at the lowest speeds, and when it kicks up to full RPM. Performance at the low-noise levels is not that impressive, but if noise control isn't your concern the Thermal Integration TI-T707TN appears to have some very nice cooling capabilities...
At the higher fan speed levels the performance of the Thermal Integrations TI-T707TN is quite good - just a bit shy of performance cooling, but still close. For the fan to be rotation at this speed, the ambient case temperature of a computer would have to be around 43 degrees or more. Noise levels rise to about 54 dB so the heatsink will stand out from other devices like power supplies, or videocard fans. On the lower end of the scale we find the Thermal Integrations TI-T707TN trudging along with some pretty toasty results. These temperature results aren't really realistic unless the heatsink were operating in a case with really low ambient temperatures, or perhaps with the side off. In any event, these two sets of results give you an example of the extremes - the lowest temperatures attainable with a loud fan, and the highest temperatures likely with the quietest fan speed. Realistically, temperatures will fall somewhere in between depending on each situation, but we still find ourselves wishing the thermistor were making some sort of contact with the heatsink itself, and not simply measuring the ambient air temperatures to determine fan RPM rates. All in all, while the Thermal Integration TI-T707TN is a good heatsink with a lot of potential I would be apt to choose the version with the standard fan. As we have seen by the test results above, with a quick fan the TI-T707TN is able to pull off some very nice temperature results that should make any Pentium 4 user happy.
