The Fan:
The Delta fan used here is 80mm in size and protected by a fan grill. The fan draws 0.51A and
rotates at around 4000RPM. The fan connects to the motherboard via a standard three-pin motherboard fan header. There is just 1.5mm of clearance below the fan, and above the
*square tips* of the fins. |

Top: With 17 fins machined from a solid block of
aluminum, the heatsink is blocky in appearance. Fins
are roughly 1mm thick, and are spaced 2mm apart. Looking at the heatsink we can see just six small cross cuts of no
more than 1mm thick. It is hard to see these having any large effect on the exhaust flow inside the
heatsink. |

Side
A: The side profile of the S1 shows a very simple heatsink design, and little extra in the way of detail. A small recess supports a bracket which the 80mm screws into. The fins are indented in a few locations, and while is hard to see, the wire clips which hold the heatsink in place fit into small slots along the edges.

fit into the cuts in the side of the heatsink here. The outer fins are
6mm thick on either side, and the base is about 6.5mm thick aluminum. Notice the rather
large screws used to hold the 80mm fan in place on the heatsink. |

Heatsink Base:
The base has been machined perfectly
flat, and is very smooth. I really whish more manufacturers would take
the extra effort and mill down the base of their heatsinks.. In the
end, the consumer can use less thermal compound allowing the heatsink to work
more effectively. |
