Tocools A1M From All Angles

The Fan:

The Nidec BetaSL fan used on the Tocools A1M is 80mm in size and protected by a fan grill. The fan draws 0.18A and rotates at around 4000RPM.The fan connects to the motherboard via a standard three-pin motherboard fan header. There is just 1.5mm of clearance below the fan, and above the square tips of the fins.

Top: With 16 fins appear to be machined from a solid block of aluminum, and thus the thermal properties of the aluminum should be very uniform. Each fin measures 1mm thick, and is spaced 2mm apart from one another. The Tocools A1M employs a pretty standard cooling method which is offset by that nice big cooling fan.

Side A: The side profile of the heatsink is quite plain except for the few small extra cuts near the top of the heatsink to help improve thermal performance. The extra surface area can't hurt, and since the heatsink is largely cut from a solid block the outside faces are smooth. The clip is really basic, and not very special by any means. It is neither a tool-based clip, nor is there a large enough place to grasp it with your finger!
Side B:
The business side of the A1M looks good with all those nicely cut fins. Even though the heatsink is hampered by a less than ideal clip, the underlying heatsink design is pretty standard stuff so it will be interesting to see how the heatsink performs. The base is just over 6mm thick and the side walls are 4mm a peice. This is somewhat of a pre-production heatsink so the fan is held in place with some external brackets and some rather large sheet metal screws.

Heatsink Base:

It must be a facet of Korean workmanship that all the base plates are completely smooth and very well machined. Just like the Zalman heatsinks, the Tocools AIM is pretty impressive for a simple aluminum heatsink. The base is undercut by 2mm to provide socket cam arm clearance.
