The initial thermal performance of the Kuthtec KTM2001 is just about dead on with that of the KTM2101 model. We'll have to see what the final performance results say to see if the two heatsinks separate any.

It seems as though there isn't much difference between the KTM2001 and the KTM2101 models which is a bit surprising. But heatsinks employ similar technology, but are built in entirely different ways. The only common threads are the fan, copper core, and fan shroud. In any case, the KTM2001 is a pretty good heatsink. It doesn't quite have the power necessary to be classed a performance cooler either, but for its size, and materials it does a good job and would be fine for stock cooling.

Looking at the fins above, it brings up the question of what kind of performance we could expect to see if the fins were mounted in a more traditional manner, if the fins were a lot thinner (and more plentiful), and what the results would be like if the entire system were made in copper. I'm sure there a half-dozen other questions which pop up if you consider hole geometry, finish, and even the prospects of internal finning - but we'll leave that up to Kuthtec.

In the heatsink business it pays to have the designs and concepts which work really well, and if that isn't the case the manufacturers don't get much credit. A "so-so" heatsink is almost the same as a bad heatsink as consumer interested in overclocking spend their hard earned cash on the best, the quietest, and sometimes just the flashiest. Kuthtec definitely have an eye-catching design, and performance that is pretty good to boot.
