The Fan:
The fan is the oddest part of this
heatsink and is all for show. The impeller blades are plated silver, and
the frame is tubular aluminum. Added on top of that are a
shiny hologram and a wire fan grill. The fan does spin with a
nice amount of force, but not much as to require this level of protection!
Power comes via a three-pin motherboard fan header which supports RPM monitoring.

Top: The fins have these little circular
parts punched into them so that it would appear as though a heatpipe had been inserted for added cooling power.
In actuality, the punched parts are just used to space and interlock the fins. Compared to
a lot of other copper fin heatsinks, the spacing on the CU5TB is a wider than most. There is about
5mm of space between the tips of the copper fins and the base of the
fan. |

Side
A: The manufactures name is
printed on the side of the fan shroud which is poorly bonded to the copper
base by small crimps. The entire shroud was just about falling off on
the unit we tested - probably due to some rough handling during shipping. The aluminum has been chrome plated for added luster, and for some unexplainable reason the clip has even been copper plated!? The clip requires a screwdriver to engage and is a bit stiff for our liking. |

Side B: Each of the
copper fins are about 0.5mm thick and spaced 2mm apart. The fins measure
30mm in height and are brazed to the base in a way we have never seen
before. It is difficult to say if the edges of the
fins are all that makes contact, or if small slots were cut into the copper. In any case, the thermal joint between the copper fins and copper
base is excellent and very clean and smooth. The base is about 5mm thick. Note
the small spacers which look as though they might contain heatpipe (they don't). |

Heatsink Base:
Titan have
really improved the quality of their base finishes since we started reviewing their heatsinks. The CU5TB has a very smooth
polished base which is remarkably flat over the entire surface. The base is undercut
1.5mm for socket cam clearance, and the fan shroud remains flush to the surface.
We saw one heatsink from Vantec where the aluminum shroud over hung a little to far,
potentially causing a seating problem on the
socket. |
