CB0315U17 From All

The Fan:
The Power Logic
fan produced an interesting affect when working on the CB0315U17 heatsink.
The noise signature would pulsate in an uneven fashion. We don't have a
concrete explanation for this, but it may be do to back pressure
issues. In any event the fan is attached to the copper fan shroud
which keeps the fan about 6mm above the tips of the fins. The fan
draws power via a three-pin motherboard fan header which supports RPM monitoring.

Top: The fins in this heatsink
are punched out separately and then brazed to the base. They are not interlocking
and so the appearance is not as finished looking as other manufacturers are able
to produce. The copper is thin, perhaps 0.1mm thick, but because of the mounting, doubled up
on each side by adjacent fins. Fins are spaced 1.25mm apart and are 25mm in
height.

Side
A: The manufactures name is stamped into the side of the heatsink fan shroud which is bonded to the copper base by some permanent means (solder, or perhaps brazing). The heatsink body is 60mm in size, but the fan is 70mm so the shoud extends out to meet it. |
|
Side B: A three prong
clip is getting to be a luxury AMD owners should never be without. Given the high forces that AMD specs out for the heatsinks it is
a wonder that more socket mechanisms are not damaged more often. The large thumb grip
makes engaging the heatsink an easy task - and no tools are required. |
|
Heatsink Base:
The base appears
really rounded off, and un flat at first glance. On closer testing we found that the base was indeed
flat over the area where it makes contact with the AMD processor so all
should be good. Since the surface has been polished it is nice and shiny
- however it is still a good idea to use thermal paste for the bond between
the CPU core and base of the
heatsink. |
