Abstract: This heatsink performed pretty well on the socket 370/socket A test platform so chances are good that we could see equally good performance on the P4 test die.

CB0307Z17 Heatsink From All Angles

The Fans:
ChoLiang use PowerLogic fans on all the heatsinks we have tested from them up to this point. Facing the world with a Powelogic fan the ChoLiang heatsink is moderately noisy, but not much more than a typical power supply might be. The fan draws just 0.22A and does not require any type of fan grill. The fan supports RPM monitoring and connects via a standard 3-pin motherboard fan header.

Bare Heatsink:

The Cho-Liang heatsink has a rather neat set of fins that reminds us of Cisco's San Francisco bridge-like logo. The fins also hint at a rise in the thickness of the base which may help with thermal transfer to the outer edges of the heatsink.

Side A:
 The side of the heatsink shows no cross cuts so the air must escape out from either side. The small tabs left on either side are what the two loose clips press down on to hold the heatsink in place. Each tab is about 7mm wide.

Side B:
The fins range in height from 20mm to 27mm in height and are ~0.75-1.0mm thick. Each fins is spaced ~1.5mm apart. The base plate at its thickest point is 10mm thick.

Heatsink Base:
 I have mixed feelings about the base of this heatsink because it is simply the raw extrusion. Raw extrusions are never perfectly flat so it is a bit of a step backward to plate that surface. Given the markets that Cho-Liang are likely to be aiming for it wouldn't make much sense to machine the base, although that is something we could all benefit from.
