Abstract: Deepcool's Gammaxx 400 heatsink stands 162mm tall, putting in the class of full tower CPU coolers. At the heart of the 654 gram heatsink are four 6mm diameter copper heatpipes which are exposed at the base. The rest of the heatsink is a pretty standard rectangular aluminum fin stack, no fancy leading edges, shapes or punched out cooling fins.

Deepcool's Gammaxx 400 heatsink stands 162mm tall, putting in the class of full tower CPU coolers. At the heart of the 654 gram heatsink are four 6mm diameter copper heatpipes which are exposed at the base. The rest of the heatsink is a pretty standard rectangular aluminum fin stack, no fancy leading edges, shapes or punched out cooling fins.

The Gammaxx 400 heatsink ships with a 120mm PWM fan that rotates at 1500-900RPM and moves upwards of 66CFM at full speed. According to Frostytech's real world sound measurements, the heatsink produces between 48-39 dBA noise, making it pretty moderate on the sound front. As with most tower heatsinks, a set of extra wire fan clips are supplied so users who wish to install a rear-mounted fan can run both at low speeds.

DeepCool's Gammaxx 400 heatsink installs onto Intel socket LGA2011/1366/1155/1156/775 processors and the complete line up of AMD chips (socket 754/940/939/AM2/AM3/FM1/FM2).

The raw aluminum fins are press-fit over four copper heatpipes and feature a slight bend it the middle area to help break up laminar air flow. Beyond that the leading edges are straight as an arrow and the 50mm wide fin surface is flat and plain.

Heatsink Installation and Hardware

The DeepCool Gammaxx 400 heatsink ships with three sets of metal brackets that screw onto the base of the heatsink and accommodate the full gamut of Intel and AMD processor sockets. A serial number is also stuck on the bottom of the heatsink, for warranty.

For AMD platforms the Gammaxx 400 thankfully simply clips onto the existing AMD heatsink retention cage - easy as pie! Apart from mounting brackets, DeepCool supply four 120mm wire fan clips and a small pack of thermal grease.

FrostyTech's Test Methodologies are outlined in detail here if you care to know what equipment is used, and the parameters under which the tests are conducted. Now let's move forward and take a closer look at this heatsink, its acoustic characteristics, and of course its performance in the thermal tests!
