Zalman CNPS6000-Cu Fan Heatsink Review
Zalman CNPS6000-Cu Fan Heatsink Review

Abstract: In some situations however, quiet computers are really necessary. For example, if a computer is on 24/7 in someone's room or you work in a sound studio, lots of noise is just not going to cut it.

The CNPS6000-Cu comes with the Zalman Fanmate 1 which allows users to control how much noise the 92mm fan produces. With that in mind we have two MP3 recordings of the Zalman's 92mm fan in operation. The first recording is a standard 10 sec bit with the fan connected directly to the power supply.

The second recording is of the fan connected via the Fanmate 1, and also illustrates what happens when you turn the dial down so the fan makes less noise. You can see the effect visually in the second wave form image, or you can click on the pair of headphones and listen in to each recording separately.

It is really difficult to place the CNPS6000-Cu in terms of other performance oriented heatsinks. Since it uses a completely different fan, and heatsink design there is no way to really say it isn't one of the best (quiet) performance heatsinks out there, or that it is simply a very good heatsink, but not a performance cooler.

Considering that with the Fanmate 1 active at the lowest setting the CNPS600-Cu will produce less than 20dBa of noise, and at full throttle, a mere 36.1dBa I would have to peg it as a very good cooler, and quiet performance heatsink. To be totally sure, let's have a look at the rise above ambient temperature results next.
