Fortis Tech A92 Heatsink Review
Compared to the multitude of thin-fin copper coolers entering the marketplace a 0.5mm thick-fin aluminum/copper hybrid cooler looks surprisingly unique. Copper is after all the Achilles heel of any performance user, so it goes with out saying that we decided to take a good look at Fortis Tech's A92 heatsink. We've all learned from countless examples that throwing copper into the cooling mix is like offering a token gift to the gods of overclocking and the daemons that control FPS speeds. The more copper, the better - right? In the real world it takes a good balance between the thermally conductive materials, surface area and back pressure to create a capable cooling solution. As copper baseplates offer the added luxury of increasing lateral heatspreading (and hence making more use out of all those many aluminum fins) they have become standard on any good performance heatsink. With that in mind, we are going to take a careful look at the A92 to see if it really does classify itself as a performance heatsink, or if it falls back into the safety net of OEM class coolers; so let the games begin!
Of all the heatsinks we've seen the packaging for the Fortis Tech A92 is probably among the most complex. The heatsink comes in a die cut box with the wares up front and on display. Additionally a small tube of silver compound is included in lieu of the standard pack of silicon based white thermal compound. The compound is not quite at the level of Arctic Silver but seems to work well enough.
