Abstract: Neng Tyi's SN05 heatsink is similar to their massive all-copper SN03 model except that it uses much lighter aluminum fins to reduce the overall weight.

Tyi SN05 Heatsink Perspectives |
| The
Fan:
The Nidec fan is 60mm wide and 15m thick - making it larger than what we
normally see. Nidec
make very good quality industrial fans, so we were somewhat surprised to see
this one on the SN05. The 11-bladed fan rotates at an average of 4700RPM,
producing 16CFM. The fan connects to the motherboard via a three-pin connector, and
has a lead for RPM monitoring. |

Heatsink
Top: If you remove the fan off of the SN05
you get a better ideal of how it is constructed. Anyway, the fan bolts
into the fan shroud which funnels air through the 24 0.75mm
thick aluminum fins. Each fin about 58mm tall. |
|
Side A: While this photo is a bit washed out, there
are a few interesting things about
the SN05 to make note of. First, the copper base has been stamped
out and is 5mm thick. The aluminum fins have a small depression on their leading edge
to induce turbulence, and the method of construction means that all fins are essentially interlocked into
a one-piece unit.

Heatsink Base: I've never been too keen
on
the phase change thermal pads, but compared to a base base they are better than
nothing. The base has been punched out
and is not the best representation of something flat, but where the processor makes contact things
are just fine. I would recommend using a high quality thermal compound
in lieu of the green Bergquist pad. |
