The initial thermal test results are good, as you can see from the
list of reference heatsinks above. The stock Intel 3.06GHz heatsink performs better than the
previous extruded aluminum model.

As much as we all like to believe
that the stock coolers companies like Intel
ship with their processors are underpowered, ineffective, and in need of immediate replacement, the reality of the situation is quite different.
As you can
see by the final test results, the stock Intel 3.06GHz heatsink not only
performs very well thermally, but maintains pretty good acoustics. For after market heatsinks
looking to sway the consumer into purchasing their products the competition is stiff. With
a thick copper base and high aspect ratio aluminum fins, this
heatsink has the right stuff. True, the
fan does have a bit of annoying whine to it, but with nice thermals like this I'm a little more forgiving.
Of course there are heatsinks
which offer drastically better thermal results, and those that offer drastically
quieter fans, but the list is not as long as you might think. Intel
have bundled an excellent heatsink with their Pentium 4 3.06GHz processor,
and upgrading to something better will require careful consideration
indeed.
