Synthetic Test Results:
With a slightly smaller footprint then that of the Globalwin WBK38, the Vantec FCE6030D shows us it can compete with other performance coolers. It's close following to the WBK38 and its' 3 degree lead over the very good performing Volcano II only serve to reinforce the FCE6030D's position as a very good performing cooler. It is not in the range of the MC462-A, nor is it sitting back in the days of the SuperOrb, but the FCE-6030D has managed to stake out a claim to a very good region of cooling. This is especially worth while if we note that all Vantec fans are designed with OEM applications in mind. For an aluminum OEM heatsink to hit these cooling numbers is quite good. Now lets take a look at the rise above ambient temperature results.
Once more, the Vantec
FCE-6030D
sits dead center in our
range of reference heatsinks. The massive, and heavy SwiftTech takes the number one spot, and the SuperOrb
brings up the rear. The separation between the the Vantec and the Global win is even closer
when we look at pure rise above ambient results.
Conclusions: When you hear the words 'OEM heatsink' it rarely brings to mind any level of very good performance. In fact OEM heatsinks are usually known for using under-powered fans, and offering marginal cooling performance. In this case, Vantec have manufactured a heatsink with the low price point of an OEM heatsink (~$27) and the performance of a very good heatsink. By implementing the high aspect ratio fin design the designers of this heatsink were able to increase the surface area of the fins, lower the weight of the cooler, and produce a compact and very competent cooler. Is the FCE-6030D a high performance cooler? Well not really, but it is a very good cooler with some high performance characteristics. The clip placement and the fan impressed us, but on the same token, the base finish left something to be desired. All in all, the FCE6030D should offer cooling performance which is more than suitable for any Athlon or Duron processor out there.
