For our testing we used a fairly overclockable Intel Celeron 366. Using passive cooling this particular chip was able to achieve 550 Mhz at 2.3 volts 100% stable. Unfortunately, we didn't have any orphan CPUs to do any type of testing.
In the charts below we compared the Globalwin FEP-32 which is a superior socket passive cooler, with the MC 370-2. The Celeron 366 was set at 2.3 volts at all speeds. GlobalWin FEP-32
Swiftech MC370-2 Active Cooler
We never really experienced Swiftech's claimed 64 degree operating temperature for the MC 370, but then again, we didn't use Swiftech's awesome computer case which allowed for below ambient system temperatures. Our system temperature hovered around 116 degrees Fahrenheit.
Some processors will not overclock past a certain point no matter how cool you keep them. Unless of course you are running a super cooler such as a Kryotech type of setup. Under such extreme low temperatures you are in fact changing the operating characteristics of your CPU, so what I just said in no longer valid in that situation.
