          | FrostyTech Mk.III Synthetic Thermal
Heatsink Test Results - 200W Intel
Core i7, Extreme Edition class heatsinks tested at a 200W heat
            load.
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper
interface die with 200W heat load on the Intel version of the Mk.III
Test Platform. Temperature results listed for each heatsink were
calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperatures at time
of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

    | *heatsinks are ranked according to the 200w thermal
test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low
noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with
variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included
in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific
      heatsink review. |

frostytech's socket
LGA2011 Intel synthetic thermal test platform stresses socket
LGA2011/1366 compatible heatsinks with a 200W heat load. The AMD Integrated Heat
Spreader and Intel LGA2011 Integrated Heat Spreader both measure ~38x38mm, so
these test results can be extrapolated to AMD processor scenario's as
well.
With a
200W heat load applied by the Intel LGA2011/1366 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, Cryorig's H5 Ultimate
heatsink was able to maintain a test temperature of 21.9°C over ambient at
stock fan speed. Reducing the speed of its the 140mm PWM fan drove test
temperatures up somewhat, to a good but not particularly great, 30.3°C
over ambient.

With so many heatsinks and liquid coolers being compared
to one another, it can be helpful to narrow the list down to only sub-160mm tall air
coolers, producing less than 48dBA noise at full fan speed, before drawing
direct comparisons to similarly sized air coolers as the H5 Ultimate. Against a narrowed list
of competitors, the Cryorig H5 Ultimate falls behind coolers like the
Noctua NH-C14, BeQuiet Dark Rock TF and Scythe Mugen 4 to name a few. The first two are top-down coolers
which can interfere with memory slots on some motherboards, while the
Scythe Mugen 4 is most closely dimensionally comparable (157x130x112mm).
If you can source the Cryorig H5 Ultimate heatsink in
your corner of the world, don't fret. It's a good air cooler. Add a second
rear mounted fan and run both at a lower than stock fan speed to improve
cooling performance.
