Abstract: Arctic's Liquid Freezer 240 ships fully assembled, plumbed and filled. The whole system weighs around 1190grams and installs onto Intel socket LGA115x/2011(-3) processors and AMD socket AM2/AM3/FM1/FM2 CPUs.

360° View - Arctic Liquid Freezer 240 - Water Block

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The waterblock / pump is 39mm tall and doesn't incorporate any internal LED lighting to indicate when the pump is under power. A clever metal mounting bracket clips in place around the bottom edge of the entire waterblock, so installation is incredibly easy and the clamping forces evenly distributed to the plastic housing, though.

The pump head has a footprint of roughly 80x82mm and draws power from a single 3-pin fan power connector. The rubber coolant tubes do not swivel, they're fixed into recessed cavities on the top of the waterblock, but reasonably pliable.

The copper base plate is estimated at 2mm thick and measures 54mm in diameter.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The 38mm thick aluminum heat exchanger measures 120x273mm in size and supports two 120mm fans on each face, for a total of four fans.

The heat exchanger is marked with an Asetek sticker, so the entire system is likely manufactured by Asetek and re-badged by Arctic. Asetek have a lot of experience building reliable liquid cooling platforms, so we'd actually count this as a positive.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineer's straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axes.

The circular copper base plate of Arctic's Liquid Freezer 240 waterblock has a turned surface finish with a surface roughness of approximately ~16 microinches. The copper base plate is very slightly convex in both axes. Arctic describe the base as having a "concentric CNC surface treatment guarantees a smooth and even surface." This would imply the convex surface profile is an intentional design element.

Frostytech's synthetic thermal test platforms are equipped with flat synthetic CPU die interfaces for a couple obvious reasons, but most crucially because the curvature of processor heatspreaders has never been standardized.

Next, acoustic measurements and then AMD and Intel synthetic thermal test result charts.
