frostytech's socket LGA2011 Intel synthetic thermal test platform stresses socket LGA2011/1366 compatible heatsinks with a 200W heat load. Keep in mind that the AMD Integrated Heat Spreader and Intel LGA2011 Integrated Heat Spreader both measure ~38x38mm, so these test results can be extrapolated to higher wattage AMD processors as well. With a 200W heat load applied by the Intel LGA2011/1366 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the DeepCool Gamer Storm Lucifer heatsink yielded an average temperature result of 23.0°C over ambient at stock fan speed (1400RPM) with moderate noise output (52.5dBA). Reducing 140mm fan speed to 700RPM caused test temperatures to rise to a satisfactory result of 31.2°C over ambient, while lowering noise output to a barely audible 31.2 dBA. Conclusions Deepcool have had an interesting trajectory since we first met with the company on the Computex Taipei show floor in 2010. The Beijing based thermal solutions manufacturer has matured the design of its heatsinks greatly and improved the general fit and finish of their construction with each successive generation. The Deepcool Gamer Storm Lucifer heatsink may have a silly name, but the underlying heatsink is well built and generally well performing at stock fan speeds. It may not offer top of the line cooling when the fan is slowed down to its quietest operating speed, but the Lucifer doesn't allow for much of a rise in test temperatures either, except on the 200W test platform. As a lower noise cooler (ie. with the 140mm fan slowed all the way down) the Gamer Storm Lucifer is a worth while heatsink to consider for AMD or Intel LGA115x platforms. However, as the LGA2011 heatsink reference chart clearly indicates, the Gamer Storm Lucifer heatsink doesn't stand out when faced with the 200W heat load of our synthetic Intel LGA2011 platform where coolers like the Noctua NH-U14S, Reeven Ouranos, and BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3 among others, offer much better cooling results.
