Heatsink Test Results
Intel
Core i7, Extreme Edition class heatsinks tested at a 200W heat
load. Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper
interface die with 200W heat load on the Intel version of the Mk.III
Test Platform. Temperature results listed for each heatsink were
calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperatures at time

Frostytech's socket
LGA2011 Intel synthetic thermal test platform stresses socket LGA2011/1366
compatible heatsinks with a 200W heat load. Keep in mind that the AMD Integrated
Heat Spreader and Intel LGA2011 Integrated Heat Spreader both measure ~38x38mm,
so these test results can be extrapolated to AMD processor scenario's as
well.
With a 200W heat load applied by the Intel LGA2011/1366
version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Reeven Hans
(RC-1205) heatsink yielded an average temperature result of 23.1°C over ambient
at stock fan speed (1500RPM / 49.4dBA).
At the reduced fan speed of 300RPM, the Reeven Hans
(RC-1205) was simply out of its depth with a 200 Watt heat load... the cooler
starved for airflow and test temperatures increased to an
unsatisfactory 56.2°C over ambient.
Bottom line, Reeven's Hans (RC-1205) heatsink is a decent mainstream tower
cooler for sub-85W TDP processors. At stock speed it's not too noisy and can
handle most Intel / AMD mainstream processors in the 150-125W TDP range well
enough. It's clearly not the coolest heatsink Frostytech has tested, but it
should be relatively economical if you can find the Reeven Hans (RC-1205)
in stores. Thermal performance on the 200W synthetic test platform was less than
kind to the Hans, though to be fair the majority of high performers here are
liquid cooling systems. One thing is clear, never run the fan at 300RPM,
regardless of the platform, it may be super-quiet, but that is far too little
airflow for the Reeven Hans (RC-1205) heatsink.
