Heatsink Test Results
Intel
Core i7, Extreme Edition class heatsinks tested at a 200W heat
load. Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper
interface die with 200W heat load on the Intel version of the Mk.III
Test Platform. Temperature results listed for each heatsink were
calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperatures at time

Frostytech's socket
LGA2011 Intel synthetic thermal test platform stresses socket LGA2011/1366
compatible heatsinks with a 200W heat load. Keep in mind that the AMD Integrated
Heat Spreader and Intel LGA2011 Integrated Heat Spreader both measure ~38x38mm,
so these test results can be extrapolated to AMD processor scenario's as
well.
With a 200W heat load applied by the Intel LGA2011/1366
version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Coolermaster Hyper
D92 heatsink yields an average temperature result of 24.1°C over ambient at
stock fan speed (2x 2800RPM / 53.4dBA).
Reducing the speed of its twin 92mm PWM fans to 800RPM
causes test temperatures to jump to a poor 47.1°C over ambient. Clearly, the
heatsink is starved for airflow when both fans are slowed this much but
otherwise the Hyper D92 doesn't have any difficulties on the 200W test platform
at stock fan speed.
Ultimately, Coolermaster's Hyper D92 put its best fin forward when
its two 92mm fans are spinning at 2800RPM. Slowing the fans down to 800RPM will
make the Hyper D92 nearly inaudible, but hampers the thermal performance of
this semi-compact cooler. At stock fan speed the 147mm tall
Coolermaster Hyper D92 performs to an average level on all three synthetic
thermal test platforms; not the best thermal results nor lowest noise output,
but not bad either.
