Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The Pallas heatsink stands 69mm tall and has a footprint of 151x153mm. Each of the six 6mm diameter copper heatpipes extends from the base, rotates 180 degrees, then passes through a 121mm long array of nickel plated aluminum cooling fins. The cooling fins are crimped to the heatpipes. Each aluminum fin measures 0.4mm thick and is spaced 1.5mm apart.

The bottom edge of the cooling fins is elevated 22mm above the CPU socket. The fins themselves are 21-22mm thick at the periphery, 32mm thick over the processor. The 140x150mm fan is 13mm thick and separated from the fins by a 1mm plenum. The base incorporates a 5mm thick nickel plated copper heatspreader and 10mm thick aluminum block to distribute clamping forces.

The nickel plated copper base plate measures 40x42mm in area and 5-2mm thick. Looking at the bottom of the Pallas heatsink, from the center point of the base plate the heatsink extends ~48mm down, ~70mm left/right and ~106mm to the top. These figures will help you determine clearances in your PC system if you're considering the low profile Raijintek Pallas heatsink.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is surface flatness. This is tested with an engineer's straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axes.

The base of the Raijintek Pallas heatsink is slightly convex in one axis and very slightly wavy in the opposite. The stamped out slug of copper has not been machined flat, just lightly sanded and then nickel plated to inhibit oxidation by the looks of it. Surface roughness is at or better than ~16 microinches.
