Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA1155/1156/775 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature
results listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the
rise over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

the heat
output from intel processors varies, so frostytech tests with two thermal values
that represent the upper limits of existing cpu families. with a 150w heat load
applied by the intel lga1156/1155/775
version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Coolermaster Gemin
II M4 heatsink was able to maintain an average temperature result of 29.5°C over
ambient at stock fan speed (43.5dBA noise).
Reducing
the speed of the 15mm thick 120mm PWM fan to 500RPM dropped noise levels below
the rated capability of the Omega HHSL1 sound meter (to 28.2dBA to be specific.)
Although the number "28dBA" looks loud, it's practically silent even from an
inch or two distance. At this slow fan setting the Gemin II M4 yielded an
underwhelming temperature result of 56.3°C over ambient on the Intel synthetic
test platform. Clearly, this heatsink is best suited to sub-95W TDP processors
when operating at its lowest fan speed.
Coolermaster's low profile Gemin II M4 heatsink was
next tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test platform with an 85W
heat load. In this test
the Gemin II M4 heatsink was more at home, easily maintaining a temperature test
result of 18.3°C over ambient at default fan speed (1600RPM / 43.5 dBA) and an
average result of 35.4°C over ambient at reduced fan speed (500RPM / 28.2 dBA).
Bottom line, the low profile Coolermaster Gemin II M4
heatsink offers good thermal performance at full fan speed in sub-75mm tall PC
enclosures. The heatsink is generally very quiet, but operating this cooler at
its slowest fan speed is best reserved for sub-95W TDP computer processors.
