Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

Intel processors vary in power
output so FrostyTech tests heatsinks with two thermal loads that represent
the upper limit of existing CPU families; 150W and 85W.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel version of FrostyTech's synthetic
thermal test platform, the Coolermaster Gemin II S524 heatsink yields a result
of 23.9°C over ambient at stock fan speed (49.6dBA noise). The Gemin II S524 heatsink was then
tested with a reduced fan speed of 800RPM which resulted in an average
temperature result of 33.4°C over ambient while noise output decreased to 38.6
dBA. The Intel thermal test platform is representative of socket
LGA1155/1156/775 processors.
On the
85W heat load test next, Coolermaster's Gemin II S524 heatsink was able to
maintain a 15.3°C rise over ambient at stock fan speed and 19.5°C over ambient
at a reduced fan speed.
Overall the Coolermaster Gemin II S524 is a good-to-average
heatsink on both Intel and AMD platforms when running at stock fan speed.
There are of course a couple dozen other heatsinks to choose from if you want
lower temperatures or quieter noise levels, but most
alternatives are tower heatsinks standing much taller than the
Gemin II S524's 105mm height.
