Pentium 4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

processors vary in power output between single and multi-core models, so
frostytech tests heatsinks with two thermal loads that represent the upper limit
of each cpu family; 150w and 85w.
With a 150W heat
load applied by the Intel LGA775/1155/1156
version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Coolermaster Hyper
612 PWM heatsink once again rises to nearly the top of the reference list. In
this case, the Hyper 612 PWM heatsink yields an excellent result of just 15.1°C
over ambient at stock fan speed, with a moderate 50.7dBA noise.
The Hyper
612 PWM heatsink was then tested with a reduced fan speed of 600RPM which
resulted in a 26.3°C rise over ambient temperature. Noise output was reduced to
39.1 dBA.
On the
85W heat load test, Coolermaster's 806gram Hyper 612 PWM heatsink was able
to maintain a competitive 9.2°C rise over ambient temperature at stock fan speed
and 16.1°C over ambient at a reduced fan speed.
If your
PC is powered by a 95W TDP processor, you'll be well served by dialing back the
fan speed on the Hyper 612 PWM heat sink. If the processor is one of the 130W or
140W power houses from Intel / AMD stables, the Coolermaster Hyper 612 PWM will
yield excellent thermal performance at full fan RPM. If noise is a concern for
AMD users in particular,
look towards the Tr Silver Arrow or Noctua NH-C14 / Zalman CNPS10X Quiet instead.
At full fan speed the Coolermaster Hyper 612 PWM
demonstrated excellent thermal performance on the Intel test
platform. Bottom
line; there are a handful of comparable high performance heatsinks in the
Frostytech reference charts, all within +/-3 dBA of noise output - so keep that
in mind when comparing prices. Recommended.
